Podcast

A year ago a teacher shared an great idea about using Podcast in his classroom. What is a Podcast? I replied to him. Well he continued saying "a cool way to get a message or a lesson out to students." I was amazed and I loved that idea, but like many of us we really do not have the time to do it or find information about it. Dealing with assessments, trying to get students that are far below basic to at least basic and the list continues. But now what I have read and listened to in this weeks assignment made me take the time and learned about this Podcast idea. Podcast can be used in many ways. I learned students can help teacher create one. Shared ideas and voice overs. I learned that I can record my voice and lecture with Podcast. I could use it to help me save my voice and get the point across to students.
I visited the Radio Willow Web, Willow cast #5 which had 2nd grade students learning about art. Along the Podcast it had a web page of pictures of the artist they were learning about and short passage giving information on the artist. I also learned that they are many other web sites that offer free Podcast downloads and some of which you need to pay for.
The learn out load web sites gives us an opportunity to find books on tapes which makes it essential in our classroom. Yes there is a fee but they are also free one. Now if you have a chance I encourage you to check it. Thanks!

You chose two fantastic podcasts to learn about! Radio WillowWeb seems so perfect sometimes. Those students really sound professional. Read Out Loud has many wonderful resources. I agree that podcasting can be a very useful learning tool in the classroom.

Hello Daniel, I have always believed that students learn better when they have different voices talking to them. That being the case, the idea of children being able to listen to a podcast on a particular topic is invaluable. This allows students to gather information in an alternate way of just sitting in the classroom listening to a lecture. As the days go by, many more people will learn the value that podcasts can have in daily life and in schools throughout the world!

You take care.

I like your blog, especially the picture dealing with the pirates. I think that makes a statement about a strong personality. Keep up the good work.
